Everblades Re-Sign Guthrie
ESTERO, FL - Florida Everblades president and general manager Craig Brush along with head coach Greg Poss announced today that forward Shea Guthrie has signed a contract for the 2010-11 season, making him the second player signed by the Everblades for the upcoming season.
Guthrie returns to the Everblades where he finished off the 2009-10 season by registering 24 points (11g, 13a) in 33 regular season games and posting four points (1g, 3a) in eight Kelly Cup Playoff games. The Carleton Place, Ontario native began his rookie campaign last season with the Utah Grizzlies of the ECHL notching 13 points (7g, 6a) in 22 games before being acquired by the Everblades in a trade on December 15.
"I am very happy that it worked out to have Shea return." Poss said. "He's got explosive power and he'll fit in nicely with the up-tempo game we want to bring to the club. I certainly expect him to be a top forward on our club with the high-end level of play he's capable of."
Guthrie, who turns 23 on July 30, joined the pro ranks last season after completing a four-year collegiate career with Clarkson University. In 137 career games with the Golden Knights the 6-foot, 205 pound winger tallied 106 points (39g, 67a) and 138 penalty mintues.
While at Clarkson the former 3rd round draft pick by the New York Islanders in 2005 was named to the NCAA East Regional All-Star team after helping the Golden Knights reach the quarterfinals in the NCAA tournament in 2008, and as a freshman Guthrie was named to the 2006 ECAC All-Rookie Team.
