The last image of Matt Syroczynski in Fort Wayne will be lifting
the cup as the Turner Cup Playoffs Most Valuable Player. The left
wing is now a former Komet after announcing his retirement over the
weekend. Syroczynski, 27, will manage a new health club with
potential ownership prospects in his hometown of Buffalo, N.Y.
“Hockey has been part of my life since I was 3 years
old,” Syroczynski said. “There just comes a point where
I made it as far as I'm going to make it, and it's time to stop
chasing the hockey dream and go after financial stability.
Everything fell into place this offseason, and I was offered a job
I just could not refuse.”
After playing 30 games with Norfolk of the American Hockey League
to start the season, Syroczynski played 48 games with the Komets,
scoring 30 goals and 53 points. He was a dominant force in the
playoffs, scoring 11 goals and 16 points in 12 games.
