Mitchell Sidelined
LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Kings
have placed former Clarkson defenseman Willie
Mitchell on the injured reserve list (retroactive to Nov. 7),
Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced
today.
Mitchell, 33, suffered an upper-body injury Saturday night at
STAPLES Center during the Kings’ victory against Nashville.
In 13 games this season, Mitchell has five points (1-4=5) and five
penalty minutes. The 6-3, 212-pound native of Port McNeill, British
Columbia is currently tied for seventh among NHL defensemen with a
plus-7 rating. He’s also fifth in the NHL (third among
defensemen) with 4:23 average short-handed time-on-ice per game,
helping the Kings to a 90.7 percent success rate on the penalty
kill (second in the NHL). Mitchell was signed by the Kings an
unrestricted free agent on Aug. 25, 2010.
