Team Notes: Golden Knights Riding High with Four-Game Win Streak
The following article appeared January 27 on the Clarkson Web site.
With renewed confidence bolstered by four straight wins and a
rejuvenated offense, the Clarkson University Hockey team will look
to continue its move up the ECAC Hockey standings when it closes
out a four-game home stand in Potsdam this weekend hosting Central
New York rivals Colgate and Cornell in a pair of 7:00 p.m. games at
Cheel Arena.
Guided by sixth-year head coach George Roll, associate coach Greg
Drechsel and assistant coach Jean-Francois Houle, the Golden
Knights enter the final weekend of January with a 7-13-4 overall
record and stand in a tie for seventh place in the league with a
5-6-1 ECAC Hockey mark. The Green and Gold began 2009 in 12th place
in the conference, but have won their first four league games of
the New Year to begin their bid to grab a top-four spot in the
standings. With 10 games remaining in the regular season, five at
home and five on the road, Clarkson, led by senior co-captains Phil
Paquet (Quebec City, QUE) and Tyrell Mason (Dawson Creek, BC), is
currently just four points out of fourth.
The Knights provided their fans with plenty of excitement in their
first ECAC Hockey games at home in 2009, gaining a pair of 4-3
overtime triumphs over Union and Rensselaer this past weekend.
Senior Shea Guthrie (Carleton Place, ONT) capped off the thrilling
sweep with the deciding goal in both overtime victories. Named ECAC
Hockey Player of the Week for the second consecutive week,
Clarkson’s assistant captain has played a leading role in the
Green and Gold’s resurgence with nine points, five goals and
three game-winners during the current winning streak.
