Errant Stick to Eye Could Have Been Far Worse for Mitchell

MONTREAL — The ghoulish cut starts at the bridge of Willie Mitchell's nose and slopes downward across the delicate skin under his left eye.

This is what lucky looks like. What could have been a devastating eye injury is instead just more hockey facepaint, stitched and healing.

"Man, I am lucky," Mitchell said. "It was half an inch away. I think about how close it could have been. I haven't had one of those as a player before."
