Team Notes: Clarkson on Road with First-Round Home Ice on the Line
The following article appeared February 24 on the Clarkson Web site.
By taking three of four points in league play this past weekend,
the Clarkson University Hockey team has moved a step closer to
securing a first-round home-ice berth in the upcoming ECAC Hockey
playoffs. The Golden Knights defeated Dartmouth 6-3 and tied
Harvard 4-4 in the final regular season games at Cheel Arena to
move into a tie for eighth place in the ECAC Hockey standings.
Guided by sixth-year head coach George Roll, associate coach Greg
Drechsel and assistant coach Jean-Francois Houle, Clarkson owns a
9-16-7 overall record and is tied with Union for the final home-ice
position for the first round with a 7-9-4 ECAC Hockey mark.
Led by senior co-captains Phil Paquet (Quebec City, QUE) and
Tyrell Mason (Dawson Creek, BC), the Knights need three points over
the final weekend to clinch home ice for the postseason’s
first round games on March 6-8. Clarkson can finish from fifth to
10th in the standings. The Green and Gold close out the schedule in
New York’s Capital District region, playing at Rensselaer in
Troy on Friday and at Union on Saturday in Schenectady. The Knights
are 3-10-2 on opponent’s home ice in 2008-09 with their last
road win coming on January 17 at Brown 4-3 in overtime.
Saturday's game at Union will be broadcast live on Time Warner
Sports Channel 3
