Mac Faulkner found out about it during the morning skate. As part
of Pink In The Rink night, a team sponsor offered to donate $1,500
to breast-cancer charities if a player hit an empty netter from the
red line before the opening faceoff.
Faulkner was the pick, so the Reading Royals captain practiced
sliding shots all morning.
"Then there was lots of water out there, and I was like: 'Oh,
jeez, I can't slide this in,' " Faulkner said. "I thought I was
going to miss the net. You go out there cold, lots of people around
me, $1,500 bucks to a great cause."
