Conroy Visits Avid Readers
The following article featuring former Clarkson standout Craig Conroy appeared June 8 on the Calgary Flames Web site.
Last week Calgary Flames centre Craig Conroy made a special
visit to a local school to congratulate students on their success
with the Reading… Give it a Shot! program. Conroy wanted to
acknowledge the students' achievements, while also reinforcing the
positive effects of reading.
“It is important to find something that you like to read and
stick with it, because you will need those skills for your entire
life,” Conroy told the students, who were elated to see one
of their heroes in the flesh.
Conroy took time to answer questions, and signed autographs for
fifth grade students at a school in Mackenzie Town on Thursday,
June 4th.
Reading… Give it a Shot! is the Flames literacy program.
Along with the Calgary Educational Partnership Foundation, the
program for students grades four through six rewards active readers
with Flames bookmarks, as well as player visits to Calgary and area
schools during the season. Running strong for 13 years, the program
had over 12,000 students in the Calgary area participating last
year.
The Calgary Flames would like to extend congratulations to all our
young readers. Keep up the great work!
