Team Notes: Golden Knights Return to North Country, Face St. Lawrence

With a lengthy road trip recently completed, the Clarkson
University Hockey team returns to the North Country this weekend to
battle arch rival St. Lawrence University in a non-league
home-and-home series. The Golden Knights play at St. Lawrence on
Saturday in a 7:00 p.m. start and then face off against the Saints
at Cheel Arena on Sunday afternoon in a 4:00 p.m. contest which
will be broadcast live nationally on ESPNU.
Making its second consecutive trip to the state of Ohio this past
weekend, the Green and Gold, guided by sixth-year head coach George
Roll, associate coach Greg Drechsel and assistant coach
Jean-Francois Houle, opened the New Year in style this past Friday
at the Ohio Hockey Classic in Columbus. Clarkson broke out of an
11-game winless drought (0-9-2) with its first victory since
November 7 when it knocked off #2-ranked Miami University 4-2 in
the opening round of the tournament. The Knights, however, could
not carry over the momentum into Saturday’s championship game
as they suffered their first shutout of the season, falling to host
Ohio State 2-0 before 4,902 fans at Value City Arena.
Clarkson, which last played at home on November 29, owns a 3-11-4
overall record. The Knights are in 12th place in the ECAC Hockey
standings with a 1-6-1 league mark. After completing the non-league
portion of the schedule with this weekend’s games against St.
Lawrence, the Green and Gold, led by senior co-captains Tyrell
Mason (Dawson Creek, BC) and Phil Paquet (Quebec City, QUE), resume
conference play when they travel to New England on January 16-17 to
play at Yale and Brown.
