The overtime hero stared out from the pages of newspapers all
over North America again on Monday; the beard bushier than it was
in 1997, but the smile just as enormous and yes, just as
incredulous.
"I do have more hair on my face than I did then, but it's the same
colour," chuckled red-headed Anaheim Ducks centre Todd Marchant,
who dusted off a long-dormant flair for the dramatic on Sunday in
Detroit, 12 years after he did in the Dallas Stars with a
first-round, series-clinching breakaway goal for the Edmonton
Oilers.
The diminutive 35-year-old checker has defied the powerful
coupling of Mother Nature and Father Time by adapting his game to
keep on working in the NHL long enough to go a dozen years between
playoff overtime winners.
