Team Notes: Clarkson Opens League Play at Quinnipiac & Princeton
The following article appeared November 3 on the Clarkson Web site.
ECAC Hockey action begins for the Clarkson University Hockey
team this weekend as the Golden Knights play at Quinnipiac
University on Friday at 7:00 p.m., and at Princeton University on
Saturday at 4:00 p.m. Guided by seventh-year head coach George
Roll, associate coach Greg Drechsel and assistant coach
Jean-Francois Houle, the Golden Knights will be out to prove the
league’s preseason coaches’ poll wrong after being
picked to finish 11th in the 12-team conference.
Clarkson stands at 3-4 overall after suffering two losses at
defending WCHA Tournament champion Minnesota-Duluth over the
weekend. The Knights, who were battling the flu bug all weekend and
injuries on Saturday, lost 4-1 and 4-2 in the non-conference games
at the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center.
After displaying an impressive offensive outburst during a
three-game winning streak at Cheel Arena, outscoring their
opponents 13-7 during a mid-October home stand, the Knights were
held in check out west over the weekend. Clarkson was outshot 94-39
in the two-game series at Minnesota-Duluth, including a 50-17
margin on Friday. Undisciplined play also hurt the Green and Gold,
who were called for 81 minutes in penalties, including three
five-minute majors to three different players over the weekend. The
Knights shut down the Bulldogs’ power play on Friday, killing
off all five man-advantage opportunities, but on Saturday UMD, with
15 extra-man opportunities, scored all four of its goals on the
power play.
