Team Notes: Knights-Saints Battle in Weekend Home-and-Home Series
The following article appeared February 3 on the Clarkson Web site.
They managed just one point in ECAC Hockey play at Cheel Arena
this past weekend, but the Golden Knights of the Clarkson
University Hockey team gained much-needed confidence after two
hard-working efforts in the series against Central NY rivals
Colgate and Cornell. Guided by sixth-year head coach George Roll,
associate coach Greg Drechsel and assistant coach Jean-Francois
Houle, the Green and Gold open the final month of regular season
play with a 7-14-5 overall record.
With eight games remaining in conference action, Clarkson stands
in eighth place in the league standings with a 5-7-2 ECAC Hockey
mark. The Knights, who play a home-and-home series against
archrival St. Lawrence this weekend, are six points out of fourth
place. Led by senior co-captains Phil Paquet (Quebec City, QUE) and
Tyrell Mason (Dawson Creek, BC), the Knights play the Saints in
Canton on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and then host their North County foe
on Saturday in Potsdam, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
A four-game winning streak came to an end on Friday night for
Clarkson, but it wasn’t for a lack of effort. The Knights out
shot Colgate 27-24, but were not able to bury their chances in the
3-1 loss to the Raiders. After a power-play goal from senior Chris
D’Alvise (Mississauga, ONT) tied the game late in the second,
Colgate connected with the man-advantage early in the third, and
then sealed their third straight win at Cheel with an empty-net
goal with just seven seconds left.
