NEWARK, N.J. — He played only 18 games as a New Jersey
Devil, but Willie Mitchell will tell you that it is here where the
foundation was laid that allowed him to become a premier
stay-at-home NHL defenceman.
The Devils drafted Mitchell in the eighth round of the 1996 draft
and he played more than 100 games with the team’s AHL
affiliate in Albany, N.Y.
“They have produced a lot of defencemen over the
years,” Mitchell said of the Devils.
