ALBANY -- Clarkson University's hockey team is a senior-laden group and that was quite an important fact when the top-seeded Golden Knights were upset by 8th-seeded Colgate in the quarterfinal round of the ECAC Hockey playoffs two weeks ago.

Today at 4 p.m., the Golden Knights (21-12-4), seeded third in the four-team East Regional at the Times Union Center, take on No. 2 seed St. Cloud State (19-15-5). After their overtime loss in the deciding Game 3 of the Colgate series, the Knights weren't sure they'd be invited to the national tournament.

Once, a couple days later, the Knights were assured they would be extended an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament despite the shocking setback, it was that senior leadership provided by captains Rick Dodge and Grant Clitsome, as well as other seniors (goaltender) David Leggio, Steve Zalewski, David Cayer and Mike Arciero that kept the team focused.
