The Clarkson hockey team was supposed to be spending last weekend in Albany, but a funny thing happened on the way to the ECAC Tournament -- the defending champions were upset in the quarterfinals by the bottom seed, and the trip was canceled.
That setback turned out to be little more than a seven-day detour for the Golden Knights, who subsequently were selected as one of 10 at-large teams in the NCAA Tournament and assigned to Albany for the East Regional.
"Obviously it was disappointing losing to Colgate," assistant captain Grant Clitsome said. "We weren't too sure how it was going to end because we weren't sure if we'd get a bid to the tournament or not. We thought we had a pretty good chance, and we were pretty happy when we did."
