Islanders fans would be hard-pressed to deny that this season's
results are hardly what they had hoped for, as injuries to the
likes of Rick DiPietro, Brendan Witt, and Kyle Okposo have
contributed to severe struggles in a season where the division
rival Rangers, Devils, Penguins and Flyers have all enjoyed
significant success.
However, as Isles prospects Shea Guthrie and Tyrell Mason - a
forward and a defenseman, respectively, at Clarkson University -
will tell you, a disappointing season is always tougher when it
comes as a surprise.
Picked to finish fourth in ECAC Hockey, Clarkson - a proud program
whose NHL alumni include Ducks forward Todd Marchant, Oilers center
Erik Cole, and Kings-great-turned-Stars-executive Dave Taylor - has
struggled with injuries and inexperience this season. As they
prepare to end the first half of the season with a two-game set at
Bowling Green, the Golden Knights are 2-8-4 on the season, and
mired in the conference basement with a 1-6-1 league record.
