Team Notes: Clarkson Looks to Hit Stride
The following article appeared November 18 on the Clarkson Web site.
An undermanned Clarkson University Hockey team is finding the
defense of its 2008 ECAC Hockey Regular Season title to be very
challenging at the start of this season’s league campaign.
Hampered by a rash of early-season injuries that have kept several
key players out of the lineup, the Golden Knights have lost three
straight games and are coming off a pair of four-goal defeats in
New England this past weekend.
Guided by sixth-year head coach George Roll, associate coach Greg
Drechsel and assistant coach Jean-Francois Houle, the Green and
Gold hope to have some players return from injuries and back on the
ice this weekend as they look to turn their fortunes around with a
home stand at Cheel Arena. The Knights, who are led by senior
co-captains Tyrell Mason (Dawson Creek, BC) and Phil Paquet (Quebec
City, QUE), host conference foes Quinnipiac, on Friday at 7:00
p.m., and Princeton, on Saturday at 4:00 p.m., in their last
remaining conference games in Potsdam during the 2008 portion of
the schedule. After Saturday afternoon’s game against
Princeton, Clarkson will hold its annual Skate With a Knight on the
Cheel ice. The event is free and open to the public.
Suffering three straight losses for the first time since early in
the 2006-07 campaign, Clarkson owns a 2-4-2 overall record and is
tied for ninth in the league standings with a 1-3 ECAC Hockey mark.
This past weekend, the Knights dropped 5-1 games at Harvard on
Friday and at Dartmouth on Saturday.
