Team Notes: Golden Knights Look to Start Winning Streak in Ohio

The following article appeared December 16 on the Clarkson Web site.

Breaking from ECAC Hockey action for the holidays, the Clarkson University Hockey team will become very familiar with the state of Ohio over the next three weeks playing four non-league games in the "Buckeye State". Guided by sixth-year head coach George Roll, associate coach Greg Drechsel and assistant coach Jean-Francois Houle, the Golden Knights will play a two-game series at CCHA foe Bowling Green this weekend and then return to the Midwest on January 2-3 to participate in the Ohio Hockey Classic, hosted by Ohio State at the Value City Arena in Columbus.

Friday’s game between Clarkson and Bowling Green will be broadcast live from BGSU’s Ice Arena on the NHL Network as the NCAA "Game of the Week" beginning at 7:05 p.m. Saturday's contest is a 5:05 p.m. faceoff.

The Green and Gold will be looking to get their season on track before the ECAC campaign resumes in early January. A promising season has yet to emerge for Clarkson, which was a preseason pick as one of the top teams in the country. Coming off back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Tournament and consecutive conference titles, the Knights, with eight NHL Draft picks on the roster, had high hopes for another strong showing in 2008-09. A rash of early-season injuries, however, has played a major role in the Green and Gold’s sluggish start. Clarkson enters the final games of the 2008 portion of the schedule with a 2-8-4 overall record and stands in 12th place in ECAC Hockey with a 1-6-1 league slate.
