Washington Capitals captain Chris Clark, who played at
Clarkson, soared to new heights Wednesday afternoon and hit
speeds of 700 miles per hour as he flew with the U.S. Navy's famed
Blue Angels. Clark and Navy Lieutenant Frank Weisser took off from
Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland and reached a g-force of 7.5 in
their 45-minute flight, more than double the g-force experienced on
most amusement park roller coaster rides.
"It's not often that you get to enjoy what truly is a
once-in-a-lifetime experience," Clark said after the flight. "I'm
thankful to the Blue Angels and the staff at Andrews Air Force Base
for the opportunity and thankful to all the men and women in our
military for all they do to keep us safe and secure. To witness
firsthand the stresses on your body that these pilots endure is
really remarkable."
Clark, an avid supporter of the U.S. military whose father was a
member of the Air Force, was selected to fly with the Blue Angels
to help promote enlistment in the military and the air show to be
held at Andrews this weekend, May 16-18.
