Danis Nets AHL All-Star Accolades

Oklahoma City goaltender Yann Danis, a former Brown standout, has been selected to play in the 2012 AHL All-Star Classic January 29-30 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ. Danis will represent the Western Conference.

A native of Lafontaine, Quebec, Danis is playing in his eighth year of professional hockey, and his first with the Barons. Through 21 games, Danis has guided the Barons to a 14-5-0-1 record.  He ranks fourth in the league with a 2.20 goals-against average (GAA) and is sixth in the league with a .924 save percentage.  This is Danis’ second AHL All-Star Game, he was named Co-Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 2006 AHL All Star game in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Danis enjoyed a spectacular career at Brown, earning 2004 ECAC Hockey Player- and Goaltender-of-the-Year honors; all-America accolades in 2002 and 2004, as well as being named to the 2000-09 ECAC Hockey All-Decade First Team and to the League’s Top 50 Players all time.

In a breakthrough 2003–04 campaign, Danis posted a 15–11–4 record along with a 1.81 goals-against average and .942 save percentage that ranked third and second in the nation, respectively. On the strength of those numbers and a season that helped lead Brown to its best ECAC Hockey finish since 1995, Danis ended the year under a shower of accolades, including finishing in the 2004 “Hobey Hat Trick” for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award. Danis was also a First Team Jofa All-American, earning All-America honors for the second time in his career. The ECAC Hockey Player and Goaltender of the Year, Danis also earned INCH.Com First Team All-America honors, All-USCHO First Team honors, and New England Hockey Writers Association All-Star honors. In addition, Danis was named the INCH.Com Goaltender of the Year, the USCHO Defensive Player of the Year, and the New England Hockey Writers Association Leonard Fowle Award recipient, which goes to the MVP of New England. The Ivy League Player of the Year, Danis and the Bears rolled through the season, with Danis setting ECAC Hockey records for single-season save percentage (.948) and career shutouts (13), and tying Kevin McCabe ('77) for the most career wins by a Bears’ goaltender with 43.
