Yann Danis did not play enough games in 2009-10 to get his name on the William Jennings Trophy, but still was able to be experience the NHL awards ceremony last week in Las Vegas thanks to his goaltending partner, Martin Brodeur.
The Jennings is awarded annually to the goaltender(s) who play at least 25 games for the team that allows the fewest regular season goals in the league. Brodeur was the only Devils’ goaltender to meet that criteria as Danis played in only 12 games—starting only six—in 2009-10. Brodeur had an extra ticket to the awards gala, however, and asked Danis, who doesn’t live far from Brodeur outside of Montreal during the off-season, to come along.
“His wife couldn’t go, so he invited me,” Danis said. “It was nice of him. It was a nice experience. I got to meet a lot of players and a lot of people. It was a big production. I was pretty impressed with the whole night, the whole set-up.”
