Russell Appointed Assistant Captain at Brown
PROVIDENCE, RI -- Brown junior defenseman Jeremy Russell (St.
Albert, ALB) has been named an Assistant Captain for the upcoming
season, announced by head coach Brendan Whittet '94. Russell will
join current senior captains Jordan Pietrus (Winnipeg, MAN), Devin
Timberlake (Port Alberni, BC), and Aaron Volpatti (Revelstoke, BC)
in helping to lead the Bears this season.
Russell enters his third season having played in all 65 games
during his first two years. As a freshman in 2006-2007, Russell
played in all 32 games and finished as the Bears' second-leading
defensive scorer with 14 points (3g, 11a), including one power-play
goal. Russell missed all of 2007-2008 with an injury suffered
during the pre-season. He rebounded last year and played in all 33
games for the Bears, again finishing second in scoring among
defensemen. Last year, Russell tallied seven points (1g, 6a),
including one power-play goal, as part of the top power-play
unit.
The Bears are set to open the 2009-10 season this Friday
afternoon. Brown will face Princeton in a 4:00 p.m. non-league
contest at Baker Rink.
