Trio to Lead Bears in 2009-10

PROVIDENCE, RI -- Brown juniors Jordan Pietrus (Vermillion, ALB), Devin Timberlake (Port Alberni, BC), and Aaron Volpatti (Revelstoke, BC) have been named captains of the men's ice hockey team for the 2009-2010 season, announced by head coach Roger Grillo.

An assistant captain this past season, Pietrus finished the 2009 season tied as Brown's fourth-leading scorer with 13 points, scoring five goals and assisting eight others. One of the top penalty-killers on the team, Pietrus also gained valuable time on the power-play, scoring two power-play goals this past season. A three-time selection to the ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team, Pietrus enters his senior season with 23 points (11g, 12a) in 77 career games.

Timberlake served as the Bears' captain last season and will be just the eighth two-time captain in Brown's history and the first since Bradley Kreick served as the team captain in 1990 and 1991. Timberlake was hampered by injuries for almost the entire year, but still managed to post eight points (4g, 4a) in just 10 games. One of the top penalty-killers on the team, Timberlake was also on the Bears' top power-play and played center on the Bears' top line when healthy, as all four of his goals were scored on the man-advantage. A three-time selection to the ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team, Timberlake has 36 career points (14g, 22a) in 73 career games, having played in 68 straight games until an injury sidelined him last November.

Volpatti was also an assistant captain last season and will return to help lead the Bears as a captain this year. A strong and hard-hitting forward who plays with an aggressive mentality, Volpatti will continue to be a valuable part of the Bears' front line, especially in odd-man situations. Volpatti finished his junior year tied for fourth on the team with 13 points, scoring six goals, including three power-play and one short-handed, and earning seven assists. Another three-time selection to the ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team, Volpatti enters his senior season with 30 career points (15g, 15a) in 86 games.
