Brown Appoints Pair of Assistant Coaches

PROVIDENCE, RI -- Jerry Keefe and Mark White have been named Brown assistant coaches, in an announcement made by head coach Brendan Whittet.

"I am pleased to welcome both Jerry and Mark to Brown," said Whittet. "They are two of the top young coaches in the country and both were elite level players in very successful college programs, having played at Providence College and UNH, respectively. An incredible teacher, Jerry brings a wealth of coaching knowledge to Brown and will be a huge asset to the players. He has a keen eye for talent and is a very positive, energetic and personable individual. During his time at Bentley, Mark has done a great job at helping to transform the team into one of the elite programs in the Atlantic Hockey Conference. He has experience recruiting throughout North America and carries a professional engaging demeanor that will translate well on the recruiting trail. Mark is also a tremendous teacher of the game and will be a valuable resource for the players."

Keefe has spent the past two seasons as the head coach at Westfield State, where he restarted the hockey program at the school, which had been dormant for 20 years. He recruited 27 student-athletes to Westfield State and in one season, led the Owls to an 11-9-4 record and a playoff berth. Prior to serving as the head coach at Westfield State, Keefe served as an assistant coach at UMass-Boston during the 2006-07 season. Keefe also has coaching experience with USA Hockey, serving in various roles, including the Yankee Conference Team New England District Head Evaluator (2006-08), an instructor for New England District Festivals (2006-07), a Coach for the USA Hockey Select 17 Festival in St. Cloud, MN (2007-08), and a Coach for the Masssachusetts Satellite Program (2008-present).

A graduate of Providence College, Keefe was a four-year member of the Friars' hockey team where he finished with 98 career points in 102 games. During the 1998-99 season, Keefe led the Friars with 52 points in 37 games and was among the national leaders that season in both points and assists, earning New England Most Improved Player honors following the season.

Following his playing career at PC, Keefe began his professional career at the end of the 2000 season with the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks (AHL) and the Trenton Titans (ECHL). He concluded his professional career in 2004 with the Orlando Seals (WHA II) and the Charlotte Checkers (ECHL).

A native of Lowell, MA, Keefe was a three-time All-Scholastic player and a member of a State Championship team at Matignon High School, earning MA Player o the Year honors in 1993. Prior to enrolling at Providence College, Keefe also played for the US National Under 17 Team that won a Silver Medal in Tokyo in 1994. In 1995, he was the team MVP and the leading scorer for the Omaha Lancers (USHL).

Keefe graduated from PC with a B.S. in Business Administration and currently resides in Saugus, MA.

White has spent the past four years as an assistant coach at Bentley, where he was responsible for all aspects of helping coach the team, including recruiting, practice planning, video breakdown, and assisting with alumni events and relations. Prior to his stint at Bentley, White served as an assistant coach of both the JV and Varsity hockey teams at Reading Memorial High School for the 2004-05 season.

A 2001 graduate of the University of New Hampshire, White was a key member of the Wildcat blueline corps during his four years in Durham. In his sophomore year, he was part of the UNH Squad that faced Maine in the NCAA Championship Game. The following season as a junior, White led all Wildcat defensemen in scoring with 14 points. He was elected an assistant captain by his teammates for his senior year and graduated after making 133 career appearances.

Following his graduation from UNH, White signed a professional contract to play with the Johnstown Chiefs of the ECHL. He appeared in 72 games in his only season with the Chiefs and was named the team's Most Improved Player. The following season, he moved on to play for the Orlando Seals of the ACHL. He served as team captain for two seasons and was named the ACHL Outstanding Defenseman of 2003 after recording 54 points in 59 games. His last stint as a professional came for the Florida Everblades of the ECHL, where he finished the final months of the 2003-04 season after leaving the Seals.

A native of Woburn, MA, White earned a B.A. in Sociology from UNH and currently resides in Wakefield, MA.
