Weekend Update: Home Ice Is Nice
ALBANY, N.Y. - In the six games involving ECAC Hockey
men’s ice hockey teams Friday evening the home team either
won or tied. Clarkson posted its third win in a row a Cheel Arena,
while Cornell and Harvard earned exhibition wins.
At Clarkson 5, American International 2
*Clarkson scored twice in a 45 second span to take a 4-2 lead with
under eight minutes to play.
*The Golden Knights have now won three straight home games at Cheel
Arena outscoring their opponents 13-4 in that span.
*Clarkson’s power-play unit ranks third in the nation having
netted eight goals in 27 opportunities (29.6%).
At No. 20 Cornell 3, Guelph 2 (Ex.)
*With the victory Friday Cornell is now 14-1-2 in its exhibition
games since 2000.
*The one loss came at the hands of a future Big Red player. Andy
Iles made 39 saves for the U.S. Under-18 team in a 3-2 victory over
the Big Red at Lynah on Oct. 24, 2009.
*The Gryphons will play one other game against an NCAA team this
season, traveling to New Jersey for an exhibition Saturday night
against Princeton.
At Robert Morris 5, Quinnipiac 4
*Quinnipiac overcame a 4-1 deficit after the second period of play,
scoring three times in the third period, but a three-goal second
period by the Colonials did the Bobcats in snapping their five-game
winning streak in the process.
*Junior forward Jeremy Langlois has netted five power-play goals
this season for the Bobcats, which leads the nation.
*The Colonials went 2-for-5 with a man-advantage while shutting out
their opponent's power-play for the fourth-straight game.
At Harvard 7, Western Ontario 4 (Ex.)
*The Crimson scored five goals in the game's first 26 minutes to
build a 5-0 lead.
*Luke Greiner, Alex Killorn and Conor Morrison scored two goals
each to lead the Harvard to a 7-4 win in the exhibition game over
the Mustangs.
*Eighteen letterwinners, including five defensemen who skated in
more than 25 games last season, are back with the Crimson this
year.
At No. 5/6 Notre Dame 5 Rensselaer 2
*Sophomore forward Anders Lee scored three goals - the second hat
trick of his career - to lead Notre Dame to a 5-2 win over
Rensselaer in the opening game at the Compton Family Ice Arena
Friday night.
*Joel Malchuk and Johnny Rogic scored for the Engineers, who got 21
saves from Bryce Merriam in the loss.
*The crowd of 5,022 was the largest to see the Irish play hockey in
South Bend.
No. 11/12 Union 3 at Niagara 3 (ot)
*Friday night’s tie at Niagara marked the three consecutive
tie for the Dutchmen on the young season. Union only earned four
ties during the entire 2010-11 season.
*The Dutchmen are now riding a four-game unbeaten streak (1-0-3).
The longest unbeaten streak for the defending Cleary Cup
Champions last season was 12-games (11-0-1).
*Freshman Colin Stevens, making his first career start, stopped 27
of 30 shots for Union, while Cody Campbell made 45 saves for
Niagara. Union went 2-for-5 on the power-play, while Niagara
finished 1-of-3 with the man-advantage.
