Festivus Faceoff Featured in Lake Placid

Press Release issued by New York Olympic Regional Development Authority on August 22.

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- It's Festivus for the rest of us when ECAC Division I men's ice hockey rivals, Union, RPI, Clarkson, and St. Lawrence square off in the Festivus Face-off, Saturday, Dec. 10, at the Olympic Center, in Lake Placid, N.Y.

The four teams are slated to begin showing their feats of strength when RPI and Union faceoff at 4 p.m., followed by Clarkson and St. Lawrence at 7:30 p.m.

This is the second time in the last two seasons that these four schools will have played in the famed Olympic Center. Last year when Union and RPI met in the Halloween Face-off, Mat Bodie's goal with under a minute left in regulation helped Union earn a 3-3 tie.

Clarkson, St. Lawrence and RPI are all scheduled to begin their 2011-12 seasons, Friday, Oct. 7, while the Dutchmen open their season one day later, Saturday, Oct. 8. Under first year coach, the Clarkson Golden Knights will travel to Anchorage, Alaska to participate in the Kendall Classic, while the St. Lawrence Saints open the season at home, hosting Ferris State. The RPI Engineers also open their season at home when they entertain Minnesota St. Mankato, while Union hits the road to face Army at West Point.

ECAC conference play begins Nov. 4 for all four schools. St. Lawrence University will welcome Union to the Appleton Arena, while RPI will make the road trip to Potsdam, N.Y. and face Clarkson in the Cheel Arena.

Union enjoyed a first place last season, skating to a best-ever 17-3-2 conference mark, while RPI finished fifth in ECAC play with an 11-9-2 conference record. Clarkson and St. Lawrence University both hope to rebound in 2011-12. The Golden Knights wrapped up last season, seventh in the conference with a 9-12-1 mark, while the Saints were 6-15-1 en route to an 11th place conference finish.

Tickets are on sale now through the Olympic Center box office. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for juniors, students and seniors.
