Polls Give Prominence to Four League Teams

ALBANY, N.Y. -- With solid play last week Yale, Union, Colgate, and Cornell were once again recognized in this week’s national men’s ice hockey polls, released Monday, November 21.

Yale extended its unbeaten streak to four games with 5-3 non-conference win over intra-state rival Connecticut last weekend. The Bulldogs’ five goals was their highest offensive output on the season. Yale moved up one spot to the No. 8 position in each national poll. The Bulldogs, 5-1-1, earned 269 points in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll and 629 points in the USCHO.com poll. Yale faces two non-league opponents this week as it travels to Sacred Heart Tuesday (11/22) and then returns home to Ingalls Rink this Saturday taking on No. 5/5 Boston College in a top ten showdown.

Union, (6-3-3), continues to be ranked No. 12 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine (133 points) and No. 13 in the USCHO.com poll (389 points), after posting a 5-1 victory over Capital Region rival Rensselaer, 5-1 is its lone game last week. The Dutchmen will travel to Ann Arbor to take on No. 11/11 Michigan in a clash between two regular-season conference title holders from last season. The Dutchmen are 3-2-3 in non-league affairs this season.

With a home sweep over League opponents last weekend Colgate men's hockey team continues to climb in both national polls.

The Raiders re-entered the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll in the No. 15 slot earning 61 points and jumped up one spot again in the USCHO.com National Poll to the No. 16 position with 266 points. The Raiders, 8-4-1, will hit the road Friday, Nov. 25 for a one-game set versus Hockey East foe Vermont.  Colgate has scored three or more goals in all eight wins.

Cornell, 5-2, moved up one position to the No. 17 slot in the USCHO.com poll earning 249 points after posting two impressive shutout wins over League opponents Princeton and Quinnipiac, blanking each of them by 4-0 scores. Cornell remains at Lynah Rink Tuesday, taking on Atlantic Hockey's Niagara (Tuesday, Nov. 22) before heading to Madison Square Garden to face Hockey East power No. 15 Boston University.

Clarkson also earned votes in the USCHO.com poll this week.
