Five League Teams Find Way into National Polls
ALBANY, N.Y. -- Five ECAC Hockey men’s teams - Yale,
Union, Cornell, Colgate and Quinnipiac earned spots in the latest
national polls, released Monday, October 24.
Yale, which begins play this weekend in the Ivy Shootout, once
again was voted in the top 10 in both the USA Today/USA Hockey
Magazine (286 points) and USCHO.com (555 points and one first-place
vote) polls. The Bulldogs are now ranked in the No. 6 position in
the USA Today/USA Magazine poll, having jumped three spots from the
No. 9 position last week. Yale fell one spot in the USCHO.com poll
to the No. 10 position. Yale, the ECAC Hockey preseason
coaches’ and media choice, will take on Princeton, led by new
head coach Rob Prier Friday and then battle host Dartmouth Saturday
evening to start the season.
Union, (2-0-3), is now ranked No. 11 in both men’s national
polls. The Dutchmen maintained their spot in the USA Today/USA
Hockey poll (187 points) and jumped one spot in the USCHO.com poll
(516 points) after stretching their unbeaten streak to five games.
Union will travel to New Hampshire Friday and then return home to
Messa Rink Saturday to welcome American International.
After earning a hard fought 2-2 overtime tie with Army at the Cape
Cod Classic in Hyannis, MA Colgate maintained the No. 16 position
in the USCHO.com poll (192 points). The Raiders fell out of the Top
15 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine and now sit in the No. 17
position (31 points). Colgate is ranked for two-consecutive weeks
for the first time since 2006 when they were ranked 17th and made a
run at the ECAC Hockey title.
Cornell is ranked No. 19 in the USCHO.com poll (84 points) moving
up one spot from the No. 20 position last week. Cornell enters the
season with a streak of three consecutive appearances in the ECAC
Hockey championship game. The Big Red finished last season with a
16-15-3 mark after experiencing some growing pains in the early
going.
Winners of six of its first eight games Quinnipiac has climbed in
the national spotlight ranked No. 20 in the USCHO.com poll (84
points) for the first time this season. The Bobcats are coming off
a 2-1-0 week that featured a 6-1 win against Bentley and a weekend
split with Robert Morris. Jeremy Langlois currently leads the
nation with eight goals and six assists for 14 points and has
tallied a point in each of the Bobcats' first eight games.
Other ECAC Hockey teams receiving votes in the national polls this
week were: Dartmouth and Clarkson.

The 17th annual USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men's College Hockey
Poll is conducted each week in conjunction with the American Hockey
Coaches Association. The poll includes input from coaches and
journalists representing each of the five NCAA Division I ice
hockey conferences, as well as composite votes from officers of the
AHCA and USA Hockey Magazine, the most widely distributed hockey
magazine in the world.
The USCHO.com Poll consists of 50 voters, including 28 coaches from
the Division I conferences and 22 beat writers and sports
professionals from across the country. The poll, published
weekly by the Associated Press, is a production of USCHO.com, which
