Five League Teams Find Way into National Polls

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Five ECAC Hockey men’s teams - Yale, Union, Cornell, Colgate and Quinnipiac earned spots in the latest national polls, released Monday, October 24.

Yale, which begins play this weekend in the Ivy Shootout, once again was voted in the top 10 in both the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine (286 points) and USCHO.com (555 points and one first-place vote) polls. The Bulldogs are now ranked in the No. 6 position in the USA Today/USA Magazine poll, having jumped three spots from the No. 9 position last week. Yale fell one spot in the USCHO.com poll to the No. 10 position.  Yale, the ECAC Hockey preseason coaches’ and media choice, will take on Princeton, led by new head coach Rob Prier Friday and then battle host Dartmouth Saturday evening to start the season.

Union, (2-0-3), is now ranked No. 11 in both men’s national polls. The Dutchmen maintained their spot in the USA Today/USA Hockey poll (187 points) and jumped one spot in the USCHO.com poll (516 points) after stretching their unbeaten streak to five games. Union will travel to New Hampshire Friday and then return home to Messa Rink Saturday to welcome American International.

After earning a hard fought 2-2 overtime tie with Army at the Cape Cod Classic in Hyannis, MA Colgate maintained the No. 16 position in the USCHO.com poll (192 points). The Raiders fell out of the Top 15 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine and now sit in the No. 17 position (31 points). Colgate is ranked for two-consecutive weeks for the first time since 2006 when they were ranked 17th and made a run at the ECAC Hockey title.

Cornell is ranked No. 19 in the USCHO.com poll (84 points) moving up one spot from the No. 20 position last week. Cornell enters the season with a streak of three consecutive appearances in the ECAC Hockey championship game. The Big Red finished last season with a 16-15-3 mark after experiencing some growing pains in the early going.

Winners of six of its first eight games Quinnipiac has climbed in the national spotlight ranked No. 20 in the USCHO.com poll (84 points) for the first time this season. The Bobcats are coming off a 2-1-0 week that featured a 6-1 win against Bentley and a weekend split with Robert Morris. Jeremy Langlois currently leads the nation with eight goals and six assists for 14 points and has tallied a point in each of the Bobcats' first eight games.
