Four League Teams Featured in National Polls

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Four ECAC Hockey men’s teams - Yale, Union, Cornell, and Colgate -  earned spots in the latest national polls, released Monday, October 17.

Yale once again was voted in the top 10 in both the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine (600 points) and USCHO.com (266 points and one first-place vote). The Bulldogs jumped one spot from last week’s polls to claim the No. 9 position in each poll. Yale, 28-7-1 last winter, was No. 1 in both polls for most of the 2010-11 campaign before falling in the East Regional Final. The Bulldogs began official practices on Oct. 14.

Union, (1-0-2), maintained its No. 11 spot in the USA Today/USA Hockey poll (184) and fell one spot to the No. 12 position in the USCHO.com poll (455 points) after earning two hard fought ties against visiting nationally ranked Western Michigan last weekend.

For the first time since the 2009-10 season Colgate finds itself ranked in the national polls. After splitting with No. 4/5 Miami last weekend and starting the season at 3-1-0, the Raiders found spots in both national polls Monday afternoon. The Raiders are ranked 14th in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine National Poll (61 points) and 16th in the USCHO.com National Poll (202).

Cornell is ranked No. 20 in the USCHO.com poll (98 points) falling one spot from last week’s poll. Up next for the Big Red men's team is a two-game exhibition season, including home games against a pair of Canadian universities. Guelph will visit Lynah Rink on Friday, Oct. 21, with Carleton following for a Saturday, Oct. 22 contest. Face-off for both games is 7 p.m.

Other ECAC Hockey teams receiving votes in the national polls this week were: Dartmouth, Harvard, Quinnipiac, and Rensselaer.

About the Polls:

The 17th annual USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men's College Hockey Poll is conducted each week in conjunction with the American Hockey Coaches Association.  The poll includes input from coaches and journalists representing each of the five NCAA Division I ice hockey conferences, as well as composite votes from officers of the AHCA and USA Hockey Magazine, the most widely distributed hockey magazine in the world.

The USCHO.com Poll consists of 50 voters, including 28 coaches from the Division I conferences and 22 beat writers and sports professionals from across the country.  The poll, published weekly by the Associated Press, is a production of USCHO.com, which provides in-depth coverage of college hockey.
