CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—Chris Connolly scored twice and set up
Garrett Noonan’s overtime game-winner as sixth-ranked Boston
University came from behind to defeat the Harvard men’s
hockey team, 4-3, Saturday night at Bright Hockey Center.
Alex Fallstrom scored twice for Harvard (4-6-6), while Alex Killorn
logged a goal and an assist and Steve Michalek made 30 saves,
including 14 in the third period. The Crimson held a 3-1 lead after
one period but could not convert on several chances in the second.
Goals by Connolly and Ben Rosen sent the game to overtime before
Noonan won it at the 2:08 mark.
A night after seeing its streak of 18 straight games with a
power-play goal snapped by Union, the Crimson capitalized on its
first two advantages of the game. On the first, Fallstrom received
the puck from Alex Killorn, carried it into the offensive zone and
dropped it to Marshall Everson, who wound up for a slap shot.
Fallstrom bolted to the right post and redirected in the puck
barely three minutes into the game.
BU equalized at 16:32, when Connolly tipped in Adam
Clendening’s point shot for the lone BU power-play goal in
eight chances. Clendening finished with three helpers for the
Terriers, who owned a 34-26 shots advantage.
Harvard took back the lead with two scores in the final three
minutes of the frame. Fallstrom struck first for his seventh goal.
Everson intercepted a pass in the neutral zone and banked the puck
ahead to his classmate. Fallstrom rushed ahead on the left side,
put a move on Kieran Millan and slid the puck into the far side of
the net.
Killorn made it 3-1 with another power-play tally just nine seconds
before the intermission. After Michalek made a tough save on a BU
rush, Danny Biega swatted the puck aside to Killorn on the right
boards. Killorn passed up to Eric Kroshus, who crossed the blue
line and dropped back to Killorn for the senior’s
team-leading 10th goal and 20th point. Each team had nine shots in
the period.
Neither team could get on the board in the second period despite a
13-5 edge in shots on goal for Harvard. Each team earned two power
plays, but Millan made four saves while shorthanded and Michalek
logged three saves during BU advantages. Another power-play chance
for Harvard, off the stick of Fallstrom, hit the post behind
Millan, who finished with 23 saves.
The Terriers benefited in the third period from the Crimson’s
missed chances in the second. Connolly put in a rebound at 8:41,
after Alex Chiasson deflected a Clendening shot on net.
Rosen tied the game in the final four minutes. His backhand shot
off the left post was not initially ruled a goal, but video replay
ruled the puck to have inched over the goal line before Michalek
could cover. In overtime, Michalek stopped Connolly’s shot
from the right side off the rush, but Noonan banged in the rebound
from in front to hand Harvard its first loss in three games this
season against Hockey East opponents.
