Clarkson Triumphs at Brown
Three different Golden Knights scored goals, all set up by
sophomore Ben Sexton (Kanata, ONT), and senior Paul Karpowich
(Thunder Bay, ONT) posted 40 saves, including a penalty-shot stop,
as the Clarkson University Hockey team skated to its second
straight ECAC Hockey win on the road with a 3-1 victory over Brown
University at Meehan Auditorium in Providence, RI on Friday
night.

Clarkson, which is 5-1-2 in its last eight league games, improves
its record to 13-11-5 overall and moves into a tie for fourth place
in the ECAC Hockey standings with a 7-5-3 league mark. The Knights
close out a four-game road trip by playing Yale in a 7:00 p.m. game
on Saturday at Ingalls Rink in New Haven, CT. The Bulldogs fell 4-3
in overtime to St. Lawrence on Friday.
Clarkson took control early against Brown, jumping out to a 2-0
first-period lead. For the second consecutive game, sophomore
defenseman Alex Boak (Norwood, NY) started the scoring when he
tallied just 2:19 into the contest. Boak, with his second goal of
the season, finished off assists from classmates Allan McPherson
(Kinburn, ONT) and Sexton with a wrist shot under the crossbar.

At, 12:02, freshman Patrick Marsh (Whitby, ONT) took a pass from
Sexton in the slot and put in his third goal of the season.

The Knights struck again early in the middle frame as grad student
Nick Tremblay (Candiac, QUE) extended his scoring streak with a
power-play marker at 5:12. After taking a cross-crease pass from
Sexton at the side of the net, Tremblay poked in his team-high 14th
goal of the season to make it a 3-0 lead. Tremblay has scored a
goal in each of the last four games and has tallied at least one
point in each of the past seven games for 11 points (5-6) over that
span. Senior Louke Oakley (Whitby, ONT) also assisted to extend his
point-scoring streak to five games (3-6).

Brown (8-11-3, 5-8-2), which outshot Clarkson 41-20, picked up its
play as the period continued and finally got on the scoreboard with
a power-play tally from Jack Maclellan at 13:56 of the second.
The Bears continued to pressure in the third with 15 shots on goal,
including a penalty shot attempt. At 7:10 of the period, Clarkson
was called for a hooking penalty during a man-advantage situation.
On the ensuing penalty shot, Brown’s Bobby Farnham’s
scoring chance was turned aside by Karpowich, who stopped the shot
with a pad save.

Clarkson was 1-of-4 on the power play, while the Bears went 1-of-3
with man-advantage.
