Bobcats Skate To Tie Against Nebraska Omaha
The Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey team tied Nebraska
Omaha, 2-2, in the first of a two-game series at the CenturyLink
Center Omaha. Quinnipiac goes to 11-6-4 overall while UNO moves to
9-8-4 on the season.
Quinnipiac took a 1-0 lead on Russell Goodman's (Saskatoon,
Saskatchewan) third goal of the season, 8:39 into the game. Ben
Arnt (Oakland, Minn.) started the play when he knocked the puck
loose in the neutral zone and pushed it over to Jeremy Langlois
(Tempe, Ariz.). Langlois skated on net before falling the ice while
maintaining control of the puck. With his back to Nebraska Omaha
goalie John Faulkner, Langlois fired a behind-the-back pass, from
the seat of his pants, to Goodman who was waiting on the opposite
post to give the Bobcats a one-goal lead.
Quinnipiac maintained the lead until the 16:04 mark when Brent
Gwidt scored his fifth goal of the season. Johnnie Searfoss picked
up his seventh assist of the year when he set Gwidt up, off a
two-on-one, for the game-tying goal.
With less than a minute to play in the second period, Yuri
Bouharevich (Montreal, Quebec) scored his fifth goal of the season
to break a scoreless second period and give Quinnipiac a 2-1 lead.
Mike Glaicar (Kamloops, British Columbia) pushed the puck up-ice to
Connor Jones (Montrose, British Columbia). Jones carried the puck
into the UNO zone before sending the puck to Bouharevich at the
opposite face-off circle. Bouharevich's wrist shot beat Faulker to
the opposite corner to give the Bobcats a one-goal lead.
Ryan Walter tied the game at 2-2 with his seventh goal of the
season at the 11:42 mark of the third period. Jayson Megna sent a
pass to Zahn Raubenheimer, who blasted a shot from the half boards.
Hartzell deflected the first shot, but Walter picked up the rebound
in the slot and fired it past Hartzell to tie the game.
Quinnipiac will conclude its two-game series against Nebraska-Omaha
on Saturday, Dec. 31 at 3:07 p.m. (EST) at CenturyLink Center
Omaha. The Bobcats resume ECAC Hockey play at Yale on Jan. 6 and
Brown on Jan. 7 before returning home on Jan. 13-14 to host Cornell
and Colgate, respectively.
