Bobcats Earn Weekend Split at Robert Morris
PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team
defeated Robert Morris, 4-1, in a non-conference match-up at RMU
Island Sports Center. The Bobcats improve to 6-2-0 overall while
Robert Morris drops to2-3-0.
Jeremy Langlois (Tempe, Arizo.) set-up Matthew Peca (Petawawa,
Ontario) with the game-winner, in the first period, before adding
an empty-net goal in the closing minutes of regulation. Langlois'
goal was his team-leading eighth of the season. Connor Jones
(Montrose, British Columbia) scored the game's first goal while
Yuri Bouharevich (Montreal, Quebec) added an empty net goal.
Dan Clarke (Belleville, Ontario) stopped 18 of 19 shots on goal and
held Robert Morris scoreless through the second and third periods
to improve to 4-1-0 on the season. Quinnipiac topped the 40-shot
mark for the seventh time in eight games, outshooting Robert
Morris, 42-19.
Quinnipiac took an early lead when Jones won a face-off in the
Colonials' defensive zone, sending the puck back to Mike Glaicar
(Kamloops, British Columbia). Glaicar unleashed a shot from the
point that found the post off of Robert Morris goalie Brooks
Ostergard's right shoulder and landed in the crease behind the
Colonials' goalie. Jones, who moved to the slot after winning the
draw, saw the puck and punched it in to give Quinnipiac a 1-0 lead.
The assist was Glaicar's first point of the season.
Just under two minutes later, the Bobcats found themselves playing
with two men-down on the wrong end of a 5-on-3 power play. RMU's
Cody Crichton handed the puck along the half boards, feeding Andrew
Blazek between the face-off circles. His shot was stopped by
Quinnipiac goalie Dan Clarke (Belleville, Ontario), but the rebound
was played by Adam Brace, who scored his second goal of the
year.
Twenty-seven seconds later, Quinnipiac still a man-down, took the
lead when Langlois took control of the puck in the neutral zone and
skated on goal. Peca snuck in through the back door where he
received a pass from Langlois in the slot. His one-timer, on a
virtual wide-open net, gave Quinnipiac a 2-1 lead. The assist gives
Langlois a point in each of Quinnipiac's first eight games, giving
him the longest point streak to open a season since Eric Lampe
recorded a point in the Bobcats first eight games in 2009-10.
In the final minutes, and trailing by a goal, Robert Morris opted
to pull its goalie. Quinnipiac took advantage as Langlois and
Bouharevich both scored on the empty net.
Quinnipiac returns to action on Tuesday, Nov. 1 when they travel to
Princeton, N.J. for its first ECAC Hockey match-up of the season
when they face Princeton at 7 p.m. at Hobey Baker Memorial
Rink. They will then play at Dartmouth on Friday, Nov. 4 and Harvard
on Saturday, Nov. 5.
