Clarkson Falls at No. 10 Harvard
ECAC Hockey powerhouse Harvard University pulled out a 2-1
victory over the Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team at
Bright Hockey Center in Cambridge, MA on Friday night to put an end
to the Golden Knights’ three-game winning streak.
Clarkson, which stands at 7-4-4 overall and 3-3-1 in ECAC Hockey,
plays at Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon in a 4:00 p.m. game in
Hanover, NH. The Big Green lost 2-0 at home to St. Lawrence on
Friday night.
After a scoreless first period, in which Clarkson held an 11-9
advantage in shots, the Knights took the initial lead early in the
second frame. Sophomore Jamie Lee Rattray (Kanata, ONT), back in
the lineup after missing last weekend, tallied on the power play at
6:45, finishing off assists from junior Hailey Wood (Lethbridge,
ALB) and classmate Carly Mercer (Exeter, ONT) for her sixth goal of
the year.
The 10th-ranked Crimson (4-1, 4-1), playing at home for the first
time this season, netted two goals in a 47-second span late in the
stanza to take the lead. Jillian Dempsey scored on the power play
at 15:01 followed by Hillary Crowe’s game-winner at 15:48 of
the middle frame.
The Knights out shot Harvard 10-4 over the final 20 minutes, but
could not come up with the equalizer.
Clarkson outshot the Crimson 30-28 in the game. Sophomore Erica
Howe (Ottawa, ONT) made 26 saves.
The Knights were 1-of-6 on the power play while Harvard was
1-of-5.
