Langlois' Natural Hat Trick Leads Quinnipiac
Quinnipiac men's ice hockey junior Jeremy Langlois' (Tempe,
Ariz.) natural hat trick led the Bobcats to a 7-1 win against
Canisius in a non-conference match-up at High Point Solutions Arena
at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, Conn.
Langlois' natural hat trick was the first at Quinnipiac since Mike
Atkinson scored three straight against Clarkson on Nov. 6, 2009.
Langlois added an assist for the first four-point game since Loren
Barron (Glendora, Calif.) did it against Nebraska-Omaha on Dec. 30,
2010. The Bobcats, as a team, tied the program record with four
power-play goals as Quinnipiac went 4-for-7 with a
man-advantage.
11 different Quinnipiac players registered a point, while five had
multiple-points.Connor Jones (Montrose, British Columbia) had three
assists in the game, while Zach Davies (Smithers, British Columbia)
had two. Kellen Jones (Montrose, British Columbia) and Scott
Zurevinski (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) both had a goal and an assist
in the win. Barron and Ben Arnt (Oakland, Minn.) added goals,
while John Dunbar (Calgary, Alberta), Zach Tolkinen (Lino
Lakes, Minn.), Mike Dalhuisen (Nymegen, Holland) and Matthew Peca
(Petawawa, Ontario) all had assists.
The Bobcats took a two-goal lead through the first period after
Kellen Jones scored his first goal of the season less than two
minutes into the game before Barron scored Quinnipiac's first of
four power-play goals just three minutes later. Zurevinski tallied
his first point of the year on a goal at the 2:06 mark of the
second period before Arnt scored on a break-away to give Quinnipiac
its second four-goal lead in its last three games.
After four unanswered Bobcat goals, Canisius' Kyle Gibbons put the
Griffins on the board at the 7:18 mark of the season period. It was
all the offense that the Griffs could muster before Langlois scored
three straight over the final eight minutes of the second period
and the first four minutes of the final frame.
Canisius goalie Dan Morrison made 30 saves in the game while
Quinnipiac's Eric Hartzell (White Bear Lake, Minn.) was seemingly
untested as the Bobcats' defense held the Griffins to just eight
shots in the game. Walk-on Jake Whiting (Norfolk, Mass.) made his
first collegiate appearance, playing the final 3:41 of the game
without seeing a shot on goal.
Quinnipiac and Canisius will conclude their two-game series on
Sunday, Oct. 16 at 1 p.m. at the High Point Solutions Arena at the
TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, Conn.
