Princeton Blanks Clarkson
PRINCETON, N.J. (11/12/11) - The Princeton men's hockey team got
back on track with a 3-0 shutout of Clarkson on Saturday, Nov. 12
at Baker Rink. Three different Tigers scored with freshman Aaron
Kesselman scoring the game winner.
Princeton got on the board just 2:03 into the game and added two
more goals in the third period in a high energy game in front of
nearly 2,000 fans on Alumni Day.
Junior forward James Kerr earned his first career point when got
the puck from the behind the goal and swung it around the boards to
the right side to junior Will MacDonald. MacDonald came around the
back of the cage and the slide the puck across the goal mouth to
Kesselman who was waiting on the far post for his second goal of
the season.
Senior Derrick Pallis helped to set up Princeton's second goal, a
power-play goal at 7:08 of the third. He skated the puck into the
zone and wheeled around by the goal line extended. He dished the
puck up ice to sophomore Andrew Calof at the point who skated to
the center and dropped the puck off to a circling Pallis. Pallis
fired a shot between the top of the two circles where it was tipped
in by Berger on the doorstep.
Senior Marc Hagel iced the win with an empty net 5x6 goal with 1:25
remaining. Freshman Aaron Ave applied pressure behind the cage to a
Clarkson skater who slipped in the corner and the puck slid out
into the circle to Hagel. Hagel brought the puck up to the
checkered red and fired the puck into the empty net, his first of
the year.
Sophomore goalie Sean Bonar earned his second win of the season,
stopping 26 shots. Paul Karpowich made 28 saves in goal for
Clarkson.
Princeton outshot Clarkson 31-26, was 1 for 2 on the power play and
1 for 1 on the penalty kill.
Princeton improves to 2-4-1 overall and 2-3 in the ECAC, while
Clarkson drops to 6-3-3 overall and 1-2-1 in league play.
The Tigers will be on the road for the next two weekends, with a
trip to Central New York first on the list. Princeton will face
Cornell on Friday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m., and Colgate on Saturday, Nov.
19 at 4 p.m.
