A lack of depth up front, due to injuries to key forwards,
caught up to the Clarkson University Hockey team on Saturday
afternoon as the Golden Knights were shut out by Princeton 3-0 in
ECAC Hockey action at Hobey Baker Rink In New Jersey.
Clarkson, which tied Quinnipiac, 1-1, on Friday despite being
outshot 44-11, stands at 6-3-3 overall and goes to 1-2-1 in the
conference. The Green and Gold return to Cheel Arena next weekend
hosting Harvard and Dartmouth in the final home games of the 2011
portion of the schedule.
Princeton (2-4-1, 2-3) outshot the Knights 31-26. Coming off a
43-save effort last night, senior Paul Karpowich (Thunder Bay, ONT)
made 28 stops on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers were 1-of-2 on the
power play while Clarkson failed to score on its lone man-advantage
opportunity of the game.
Early in the first period, Princeton would score the only goal it
would need as Aaron Kesselman found the back of the Clarkson net at
2:03.
After a scoreless second period, the Tigers added two more goals in
the final frame to seal the victory. Jack Berger tallied on the
power play at 7:08 and Marc Hagel scored into an empty net with
