Knights Fall to St. Lawrence at Festivus Faceoff
A lengthy winning streak over its archrival came to an end for
the Clarkson University Hockey team against St. Lawrence as the
Saints skated to a 4-1 victory over the Golden Knights at the 1980
Herb Brooks Arena in non-league action at Festivus Faceoff in Lake
Placid on Saturday night.
Clarkson, which defeated St. Lawrence 5-3 on Tuesday night in
Canton for its fourth straight victory over the Saints, drops to
9-7-4 overall. The Knights are now off until December 29-30 when
they participate in the Everblades College Classic in Estero,
FL.
After a scoreless first period, St. Lawrence (6-10) grabbed a 2-1
lead after 40 minutes with a pair of power plays goals. The Saints
went on top first when Kyle Essery skated in from the point after a
Clarkson defenseman fell and connected on a shot from the right
circle at 6:28.
The Knights tied the game when senior Corey Tamblyn (Bobcaygeon,
ONT) knocked in a rebound at the top of the crease off a shot by
senior linemate Jake Morley (Ogdensburg, NY) at 15:01 for his
seventh goal of the season.
The Saints regained the lead less than three minutes later with
power-play goal on a rising shot from the right circle by Patrick
Doherty at 17:53.
St. Lawrence added two more goals in the third period to close out
its first win in five games. Greg Carey scored just 54 seconds into
the final frame and Chris Martin converted off a 2-on-1 at
14:28.
The Saints won the specialty teams battle, going 2-of-7 on the
power play while killing off all five of the Green and Gold’s
chances.
Clarkson held a 28-26 shot advantage. Senior Paul Karpowich posted
22 saves.
