Quinnipiac Handles Visiting Sacred Heart
HAMDEN, Conn. – Jeremy Langlois (Tempe, Ariz.) scored
twice while Loren Barron (Glendora, Calif.) had a goal and two
assists to lead the Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team to a 5-1 win
against Sacred Heart in a non-conference match-up at High Point
Solutions Arena at the TD Bank Sports Center. Quinnipiac improves
to 10-6-3 overall while Sacred Heart goes to 1-15-1 on the
season.
Langlois becomes the only Quinnipiac player with three
multiple-goal games this season. Yuri Bouharevich (Montreal,
Quebec), Scott Zurevinski and Corey Hibbeler (St. Louis, Mo.) all
scored while Bouharevich also had an assist. Freshman Matthew Peca
(Petawawa, Ontario) assisted on two of Quinnipiac's goals Zach
Davies (Smithers, British Columbia), Zack Tolkinen (Lino Lakes,
Minn.), Ben Arnt (Oakland, Minn.) and Spencer Heichman (Yorba
Linda, Calif.) all had assists in the win for Quinnipiac. Goalie
Dan Clarke (Belleville, Ontario) stopped 22 shots on goal for his
30th career win.
Barron put the Bobcats at the board with just under two minutes to
play in the first period when the Bobcats found themselves on the
power play. Bouharevich picked up the puck in the face-off circle
to the left of Pioneers' goalie Steven Legatto and fed Arnt on the
left post. Arnt found Barron in the slot, who put two shots on goal
before burying his fourth goal of the year.
With 3.4 seconds remaining in the period, Peca fed Davies at the
point who one-timed a shot on goal. Langlois, standing in front of
Legatto, got his stick on the puck and re-directed it past Sacred
Heart's goalie to give the Bobcats a two-goal lead.
After Sacred Heart's Will Rayner cut Quinnipiac's lead in half with
his second goal of the season, a one-timer from the slot on a pass
from Ryan Miniaci, Langlois scored his second goal of the night,
with Peca picking up his second assist of the evening as well at
the 9:29 mark of the second period.
Peca took control of the puck deep in the Bobcats' defensive zone
and took off down ice. After the puck was knocked off his stick, he
beat the Pioneers defense to the puck behind the goal and walked it
out to the right of Legatto. Langlois slid in above the right
face-off circle, took the pass and then blasted a shot past Legatto
to give Quinnipaic a 3-1 lead.
At the 11:37 mark of the third period, Zurevinski scored his fourth
goal of the season, on the power play, to give Quinnipiac a 4-1
lead. Tolkinen took control of the puck in the neutral before
skating back into the Pioneers' defensive zone. After receiving the
puck, Zurevinski made a move around a Sacred Heart defender and
then blasted a shot between Legatto's pads to increase the Bobcats'
lead.
Bouharevich scored a goal at the 7:01 mark of the third to give
Quinnipiac a four-goal lead, 5-1. Barron picked up the puck just
below the blue line in the Bobcats' defensive zone and centered a
pass to Heichman. Heichman, who drifted to the wing to get the
puck, move between two Sacred Heart defensive and took down ice.
After skating between the two face-off circles, Heichman slapped
the puck over to Bouharevich who one-timed the puck past Legatto
for his fourth goal of the season.
Hibbeler's goal may have been the most impressive of the night.
With the Bobcats playing down a skater, Barron dug the puck out
from behind the Bobcats' goal and wrapped it around the boards.
Hibbeler poked the puck loose in front of the Pioneers bench,
skated on Legatto and flipped a back-hand shot past the Pioneers'
goalie as he was falling down with a defender on top of him. The
goal was his fourth of the year.
