Tigers Fall Short at Dartmouth
HANOVER, N.H. (11/5/11) - Junior Rob Kleebaum scored twice but
it wasn't enough as the Princeton men's hockey team lost a 5-3 game
at Dartmouth on Saturday, Nov. 5.
Princeton got on the scoreboard just 44 seconds into the game when
Kleebaum scored on a two-on-one with sophomore Andrew Calof.
Sophomore Jeremy Goodwin set up the goal for Kleebaum and
Calof.
The lead would be shortlived as Alex Goodship tied the game at
3:00. Following the goal, there was a short stoppage in play to
clear tennis balls off the ice, a Dartmouth student tradition to
throw when hosting Princeton. Dartmouth would pick three delay of
game penalties, one in each period, for the continued
projectiles.
Dustin Walsh would give Dartmouth the lead when he scored on a
rebound at 7:21. Less than two minutes into the second frame, Eric
Robinson made it a two-goal game when he scored on the
doorstep.
A power-play goal by sophomore Jack Berger cut the lead back to
one, 3-2 at 14:11. Calof earned his second assist of the night and
freshman Aaron Ave got his name on the score sheet with the
secondary assist.
Tyler Sikura expanded the lead for the Big Green again when he got
one under goalie Mike Condon at 13:37 of the third period.
Two minutes later Kleebaum notched his second of the night, this
time on the man-advantage with defenders Michael Sdao and Derrick
Pallis assisting.
Down 4-3, Condon skated to the Tiger bench and Princeton added the
extra skater at 1:01 to try to tie the game and force overtime. The
Tigers worked the puck around in the Dartmouth zone but Taylor
Boldt broke up a pass in and Brandon McNally batted the puck into
the empty net.
Condon would go back to net for the final 16 seconds and finished
the game with a total of 25 saves. James Mello stopped 36 shots in
goal for Dartmouth.
Princeton outshot Dartmouth 39-30. The Tigers were 2 for 8 on the
power play while the Big Green was 0 for 2.
Princeton falls to 1-3-1 overall and 1-2 in the ECAC while
Dartmouth improves to 3-1 and 2-0 in league play.
The Tigers return home next weekend, Nov. 11 & 12 to host St.
Lawrence and Clarkson at Baker Rink.
