The Colgate duo of sophomore center Chris Wagner and senior wing Austin Smith combined for three goals and five assists as the Raiders snapped an eight-game losing streak against St. Lawrence with a 6-2 ECAC Hockey victory at Starr Rink Saturday night.

 Colgate, ranked 15th nationally, improves to 11-4-1 overall and 6-2-0 in the ECAC, while the Saints drop to 5-9-0 overall and 4-4-0 in the league. The Raiders had not beaten the Saints since a playoff game at Starr Rink in March of 2008, but came out with a fast start and responded quickly when Saint captain Jacob Drewiske cut into the lead with his first two goal game of the season.

"Colgate is an explosive team offensively, and we made some coverage mistakes and turnovers that you just can't make and be successful," said Saint Associate Head Coach Mike Hurlbut. "It was a tough road trip, but we knew it would be going in. We need to put it behind us and get ready to play Clarkson on Tuesday."

Colgate pounced on the Saints early in Saturday's game as the Saints lost the puck behind their own net and Matt Firman sent it out in front for senior center Austin Mayer, who scored his fifth of the year from point blank range at the right post. The Raiders made it a 2-0 game just nine seconds into their first power play opportunity of the game as defenseman Jeremy Price tucked the puck behind Weninger from the side of the net after pinching in at 11:34 and it went to 3-0 at 15:52 as Wagner scored his sixth of the year just two seconds after a Colgate power play had expired.

The Saints had a chance to get back into it as Colgate was called for three straight penalties at the end of the first, giving SLU 1:11 of five-on-three to start the second period. While the Saints did not score with the two  man advantage, they scored just as the five-on-three expired as Drewiske scored his third of the year from Chris Martin, tucking the puck behind goalie Alex Evin from right in front 1:14 into the period.

The Saints had a chance to make further inroads when Colgate was called for a penalty at 12:05 of the second, but the Raiders came away with a shorthanded two-on-one break and Smith scored his 18th of the year from Wagner on a goal mouth pass at 12:17 for a 4-1 Colgate lead. The Saints did get that one back when Drewiske picked up a rebound of a shot by Greg Carey and put it away for his second of the night with Justin Baker also assisting on a power play at 13:35.

Colgate put the game out of reach in the third period as Mayer scored his second of the night with a tap in from right in front after a Saint turnover at 4:50, finishing off a pass from Nick Prockow to make it 5-2 and Wagner scored his second of the night from Smith at 10:41

The Saints did get a late shorthanded breakaway from Drewiske, but his bid for a hat trick was smothered by Evin, who earned his fourth win of the year with 28 saves.
