Engineers Upended By Princeton
PRINCETON, N.J. - Freshman Jacob Laliberte scored his first
collegiate goal but the Rensselaer men's hockey team fell to
Princeton, 5-3, in ECAC Hockey action, this evening from Hobey
Baker Rink. With the win the Tigers improve to 4-7-1 overall (3-5-0
ECACH), while the Engineers drop to 3-11-0 (1-5-0 ECACH).
Laliberte (Rockland, ON/Cornwall Colts) opened the scoring with an
unassited tally at 6:44 of the opening period. The Tigers answered
quickly, tying the score at 1-1, on a goal by Jack Berger at 11:15
of the first. Assists on Berger's sixth goal went to Kevin Mlls and
Kevin Ross.
Princeton took a 2-1 lead at the 13:36 mark of the period on Rob
Kleebaum's sixth of the season. Berger earned the lone helper. RPI
answered just over three minutes later on a tally by Matt Tinordi
(Severna Park, MD/Olds Grizzlys), with assists credited to senior
Josh Rabbani (Woodland Hills, CA/St. Louis Bandits) and junior Nick
Bailen (Fredonia, NY/Indiana Ice).
The two schools traded second period goals as Andrew Calof netted
the Tigers third goal at 7;13 of the frame. Engineers' junior C.J.
Lee (Staten Island, NY/Green Bay Gamblers) found the net for the
first time this season, evening the score at 3-3 with less than
1:30 to play in the second period.
Calof's second of the game and third of the year turned out to be
the eventual game-winner at 7:06 of the third. An empty-netter by
Berger completed the scoring.
Sean Bonar (4-5-1) made 28 saves to earn the win, while RPI junior
Bryce Merriam (2-9-0) recorded 19 stops at the other end of the
ice.
The Engineers return to action tomorrow night, when they visit
Quinnipiac (7pm).
