Jones Leads Bobcats to Exhibition Win
Quinnipiac sophomore Connor Jones (Montrose, British Columbia)
scored twice to lead the men's ice hockey team to a 5-2 win against
Acadia in an exhibition game played at High Point Solutions Arena
at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, Conn. Twin brother Kellen
assisted on both of Connor's goals.
2010-11 team Most Valuable Player Jeremy Langlois (Tempe, Ariz.)
scored the game's first goal when he took a pass from sophomore Ben
Arnt (Oakdale, Minn.) to put the Bobcats on the board just 5:07
into the game. Thirteen seconds later, at the 5:20 mark, Kellen
found Connor for the first of his two goals in the period. Connor's
second goal came at the 11:45 mark.
With just under five minutes to play in the first period, head
coach Rand Pecknold replaced starting goalie with
manager-turned-back-up-goalie Jake Whiting (Norfolk, Mass.).
Whiting played solid over the closing minutes of the first period,
blanking the Axemen while turning back five shots on goal in his
first collegiate action.
In the second, Bobcats' defenseman Zach Davies (Smithers, British
Columbia) and Kevin Bui (Edmonton, Alberta) scored to increase
Quinnipiac's lead to 5-0. Loren Barron (Glendora, Calif.), who led
Quinnipiac with 17 assists a year ago, hooked up with Davies for a
power-play goal before Mike Dalhuisen (Nymegen, Holland) set-up Bui
for the goal with a man-advantage.
Acadia's Andre Clark and Dustin Ekelman scored for the Axemen to
trim Quinnipiac's lead to three goals before the end of
regulation.
The Bobcats open the 2011-12 season this weekend with a two-game
series in Columbus, Ohio against Ohio State on Oct. 7-8. Bobcat
fans can listen live to the game by tuning their dial to AM 1220
