Finalists Named for League’s Rookie-of-the-Year Award
ALBANY, N.Y. -- ECAC Hockey today announced the finalists for
the 2010-11 Men’s Rookie of the Year Award. Mat Bodie, Union,
Andrew Calof of Princeton, and St. Lawrence’s Greg Carey have
each been named finalists for the honor by the League’s
coaches.
Bodie enjoyed a productive rookie campaign at both ends of the ice
for the Dutchmen. The talented two-way defenseman scored three
goals and added 10 assists for a total of 13 points in conference
play, which tied for fourth among all defenders and tied for eighth
in the league among all rookies. Bodie is one of two defensemen on
the team to have played in all 36 overall games this season. A key
contributor on Union’s nation-leading power-play unit, Bodie
has registered five multiple-point games this season, and has two
game-winning goals this season. The freshman has played a key role
on Union’s championship team, which led the league in scoring
defense only surrendering 1.95 goals per game. Bodie help Union
during its recent 16 game stretch in conference play outscoring
opponents by a combined score of 59-27.
Princeton rookie, Andrew Calof is another finalist for the
league’s top rookie award. Calof was the top rookie in
scoring offense with 23 points on seven goals and 16 assists, which
also tied him for fourth among all student-athletes in ECAC Hockey.
His 16 assists in 22 league games placed him tied for second among
all players. Calof’s offensive-minded play was evident on the
Tigers’ power-play and penalty-kill units, as he netted six
goals and added five assists on man-advantage situations, which
tied him for the league lead. He also scored three shorthanded
goals, which was tops in the league for the 2010-11 season.
The final candidate for the league’s rookie award is St.
Lawrence freshman forward Greg Carey. Carey led the Saints in
scoring in conference action with 20 points. He scored 11 goals and
registered nine assists in 22 league games, tying for the league
led among freshmen in goals and tying for second in conference
points among rookies. He tied for fourth in ECAC Hockey action with
five power-play goals on the season. Carey currently ranks fifth in
the nation in scoring among rookies, averaging 1.00 points per game
on 21 goals and 16 assists in 37 overall contests. He has earned
ECAC Hockey/MLX Skates Rookie of the Week honors
five times this season.
