There are the iconic, instantly recognizable jerseys (Lanny McDonald's No. 9, Joe Nieuwendyk's No. 25, Al MacInnis's No. 2) and the somewhat less timeless (David Van Der Gulik's 59 and that fabled 63 donned by Warren Peters). A squabble or two might just break out when it comes to Theo Fleury or Kent Nilsson for 14, or Jarome Iginla or Hakan Loob for No. 12. But for better or worse, here's Calgary Herald sports columnist George Johnson's take on the greatest Flames, by the numbers.
17. Chris Clark, RW (1999-2000 to '03-04): Underrated part of the '04 Cup final run.
25. Joe Nieuwendyk, C (1986-87 to '94-95): Two-time 51-goal scorer, superb hand/eye co-ordination. Captain for five seasons.
33. Carey Wilson, C (1983-84 to '87-88/and '90-91 to '92-93): Centred the Dice Line of the mid-'80s.
36. Doug Dadswell, G (1986-87 to '87-88): (In)famous for playing (and losing) his NHL debut 7-5 in front of 334 fans at the Meadowlands, as a 51-centimetre snowstorm ground the state of New Jersey to a halt.
