Trio Continues to Climb in Polls

ALBANY, NY – Yale, Union, and Rensselaer continue their climb in the 2010-11 national polls released Monday, November 22, 2010.  Yale moved to the No. 3/3 position, Union now sits in the No. 12/13 spot, and Rensselaer jumps to the No. 17 position.

Yale has now won seven of eight games on the season for a .875 winning percentage, tops in the nation.  The Bulldogs completed a road weekend sweep of Central New York foes Cornell, 4-1 and Colgate, 6-4.  The Bulldogs own the best scoring margin versus opponents a 2.50 this season, scoring 42, while only surrendering 22 goals.  In this week’s USCHO.com poll Yale has earned 856 points and jumped two spots to the No. 3 position from the No. 5 spot.  The Bulldogs moved up two spots in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men’s College Hockey Poll as well to the No. 3 position (421 points) from the No. 5 position last week.   Yale, coming off four straight road games, is back at Ingalls Rink for an out-of-league contest against nearby Sacred Heart Tuesday evening.

Union, 7-2-3 overall, was idle last weekend.  The Dutchmen managed to move from the No. 14 spot to the No. 13 position in the USCHO.com poll (421 points) and stayed in the No. 12 spot in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men’s College Hockey Poll (133 points).  This marks the 21th consecutive week that Union is nationally ranked, extending its school record.  The Dutchmen own the nation’s best power-play unit with a success rate of 37%.  Union resumes play the weekend of December 3-4 when it travels to Brown and Yale.        

Rensselaer also had a break from the ice last weekend.  The Engineers moved up one spot in the USCHO.com poll (191 points) from No. 18 to No. 17 and received some votes in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men’s College Hockey Poll (19 points).  The Engineers now possess the best scoring defense in the nation (1.82 G/GM) having only given up 20 goals in 11 overall games.  The Engineers are back in action on November 26 & 27, when they host the 60th Annual Rensselaer Holiday Tournament at the Houston Field House.

Quinnipiac, Dartmouth, Princeton, Clarkson, and Brown all received votes in the national polls this week well.

The 16th annual USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men's College Hockey Poll is conducted each week in conjunction with the American Hockey Coaches Association.  The poll includes input from coaches and journalists representing each of the five NCAA Division I ice hockey conferences, as well as composite votes from officers of the AHCA and USA Hockey Magazine, the most widely distributed hockey magazine in the world.
