Lohry's Overtime Goal Lifts Princeton to Win at Clarkson

POTSDAM, N.Y. (1/29/11) - Kevin Lohry scored nine seconds into overtime to lift the 19th-ranked Princeton men's hockey team to a 4-3 win at Clarkson on Saturday afternoon at Cheel Arena. Lohry and linemates Andrew Ammon and Brodie Zuk were on the ice for all four Princeton goals and combined for seven of the team's nine points.

Clarkson scored the game's first goal but the Tigers answered in less than a minute to even the score and had a 2-1 lead by the first period's end. Nick Tremblay one-timed a Will Frederick pass at 10:13 to make the score 1-0, but Clarkson's lead lasted only 43 seconds before Matt Godlewski responded.

Zuk held the puck in the corner and centered a pass for Ammon. Ammon and a Clarkson defender both swiped at the puck but it went through both to the other side of the ice where Godlewski pinched in and scored his first of the season.

Zuk, Ammon and Lohry again teamed up to make it 2-1 Princeton at 18:34 of the opening period on the power play as Ammon netted his sixth of the season. Goaltender Sean Bonar started the play with a long pass up ice to Lohry, who gained the Clarkson blue line and waited for the play to set up. He eventually fed Zuk in the corner, who got the puck to the crease where Ammon put it by Clarkson goaltender Paul Karpowich to give the Tigers the lead.

Clarkson evened the score at 2-2 in the first minute of the second period. Princeton was late in returning to the ice for the second period and was assessed a bench penalty for a protocol violation. The Golden Knights took advantage of the power-play chance, their first of the game, when Tremblay netted his second goal of the afternoon. Tremblay was waiting at the far post and received a pass from Jake Morley. Tremblay's first shot was stopped by Bonar, who made a great save going post to post, but Tremblay got his own rebound and put it over Bonar to knot the game at 2-2.

Princeton took a 3-2 lead 27 seconds into the third period when Ammon collected his second of the game. Taylor Fedun sprung him on a breakaway and Ammon scored with a shot under the glove of Karpowich to give Princeton the lead. Clarkson answered though five minutes later when Allan McPherson got to a rebound and got it past Bonar. The goal at 5:07 came on the rebound of Adam Pawlick shot.

Neither team scored in the remainder of the game, which set up overtime and Lohry for the game winner. Zuk won the face-off to start overtime and Lohry collected the puck at the red line and raced down the boards. He then cut to the middle along the goal line and beat Karpowich to the far post for his ninth goal of the season to hand Princeton the win.

Bonar finished the game with 31 saves as Princeton avenged a loss to Clarkson earlier this season. Karpowich had 32 saves as Princeton outshot Clarkson 36-34.

Princeton is now 14-6-1 overall and 9-4-1 in the ECAC. Princeton hosts Union next Friday night.
