Two Players Score 100th Point as Dartmouth Defeats St. Lawrence
HANOVER, N.H. - A career night for Adam Estoclet (Orono, Minn.) and Scott Fleming (Plainfield, Ont.) as each tallied the 100th point of their careers in a 4-2 victory ove St. Lawrence on Friday night in Thompson Arena. The victory gives the No. 18 Dartmouth men's hockey team a first round bye in the ECAC playoffs that begin next weekend. The Big Green will play a best-of-three series beginning on March 11.
Estoclet finished with three points on the night while Fleming had two. The win improves Dartmouth to 16-9-3, 12-7-2 in the ECAC while SLU falls to 10-18-5, 6-14-1 in the league.
Estoclet's goal with around six minutes left in the contest broke a 2-2 tie. Traffic in front allowed Estoclet to take a Fleming pass and jam it off a St. Lawrence stick and over the goal line.
"I honestly didn't know where it was," Estoclet said. "I just kept jamming my stick down and suddenly saw it in the back of the net."
The senior forward capped the night with an empty net with 26 seconds left on the clock. Fleming and Doug Jones (Marietta, Ga.) picked up assists.
Eric Robinson (Foxboro, Mass.) lit the lamp first for the Big Green just 1:15 into the opening period. Nick Walsh (Shannonville, Ont.) stipped the puck just past center ice and passed quickly to Jones who had give-and-go with Robinson, coming in on netminder Robby Moss before Robinson shot into the open space behind Moss for the goal.
Despite outshooting the Saints, 14-2 going into the first break, the scored remained 1-0 in favor of the home team.
St. Lawrence tied the contest at 14:51 of the second frame when Nick Pitsikoulis was able to jam the puck around the pipe past goalie James Mello (Rehoboth, Mass.). Jared Keller and Jacob Drewiske assisted on the play.
A terrific power play goal pulled the Big Green ahead less then five minutes later when Jones capitalized on an Evan Stephens (Bessemer, Mich.) pass from the top of the circle. Jones turned around and slid the puck past Moss for the 2-1 advantage. The assist was Estoclet's first of the night.
St. Lawrence tied things up again early in the third, just 13 seconds into a Dartmouth penalty when Aaron Bogosian capitalized shorthanded on a Big Green mistake and made a terrific effort to put the puck behind Mello.
Confusion insured in the waning minute as St. Lawrence had what they thought was a goal just seconds before Estoclet's empty netter. After official review it was determined to be no-goal for the Saints but a sure goal for the Big Green.
Fleming and Estoclet are the 34th and 35th players in Dartmouth history to record 100 career points. Fleming now has 101 while Estoclet is right at 100.
Tomorrow night will be Senior Night for nine Big Green seniors as Dartmouth tips off against Clarkson in a 7 p.m. matchup.
