Tigers Topple Sacred Heart
PRINCETON (1/25/11) - A 16-day layoff didn't slow the
19th-ranked Princeton men's hockey team down as the Tigers jumped
out to an early lead in a convincing 7-1 win over Sacred Heart on
Tuesday night at Hobey Baker Rink. Six Tigers had multiple points
in the win and 13 skaters tallied at least a point.
Princeton, which last played in a Jan. 9 win over Colgate, scored
three times in the first 11 minutes of the game to chase Sacred
Heart's starting goalie Olivier St. Onge and build an
insurmountable lead. Those three goals came on Princeton's first
seven shots. Brodie Zuk opened the scoring on a backhander through
the legs of St. Onge at 5:44 with assists from his linemates Andrew
Ammon and Matt Farris.
Mike Kramer scored her first of two goals shorthanded less than two
minutes later when he finished a 2 on 1 after a pass from Matt
Arhontas. Eric Meland then scored on the power play at 10:24,
putting in the rebound of a Kevin Lohry shot. Cam Ritchie had his
first of two assists on the goal. Princeton would add another three
goals in the second period, scoring twice on the power and once on
a delayed penalty. Kramer made it 4-0 when he scored through a
screen at 3:02 with assists from Andrew Calof and Arhontas. Then at
13:41 Jack Berger scored his second goal of the year on a delayed
penalty, corralling a blocked shot and putting into an open Sacred
Heart net, and finally Pallis scored from the point on a 4 on 3.
Lohry and Pallis assisted on Berger's goal and Ritchie had the lone
assist on the Pallis tally.
The Tigers added a seventh goal in the final stanza as Jeremy
Goodwin netted his second of the season on a rebound in front.
Meland and Rob Kleebaum has helpers on the goal. Princeton senior
goaltender Alan Reynolds made 19 saves in the win, but had his bid
for a shutout end at 14:20 of the third when David Berube scored on
a rebound.
Princeton outshot Sacred Heart 59-20 in the win and scored a
season-high seven goals. Princeton was 3 for 7 on the power play
and killed all five Pioneer power plays. The Tigers are now 12-6-1
overall and return to ECAC Hockey action this weekend on the road
at St. Lawrence and Clarkson.
