Princeton Snaps Skid with Win Over Brown
PRINCETON - The Princeton men's hockey team snapped a four-game winless streak with a big win on Friday night over Brown at Hobey Baker Rink. Princeton matched a season high with seven goals as it climbed to fourth in the ECAC standings with the win.
Kevin Lohry led the Tigers with two goals and an assist for three points. Taylor Fedun also added two goals from the blue line, while Andrew Ammon added a goal and an assist and Matt Arhontas had two helpers.
Princeton jumped on Brown at the get-go and took a 1-0 lead in the game's first minute. Arhontas got the puck to Michael Sdao at the blue line and Lohry redirected his point shot in the slot for his 10th goal of the season.
Harry Zolnierczyk knotted the game at 6:38 of the period but the Tigers rebounded three minutes later on a power-play goal from Fedun and Eric Meland found him all alone in the slot for Fedun's ninth goal of the season. Lohry also assisted on the goal as he fed Meland behind the net.
The Tigers added to the lead when Andrew Calof scored his sixth of the season at 12:36. Calof got the puck from Mike Kramer in the corner and came in front. His first shot there was saved but he put in the rebound to give the Tigers a 3-1 lead after one.
The Tigers outscored Brown 2-1 in both the second and third periods. In the second Rob Kleebaum went coast-to-coast on the power play to make it 4-1 with his sixth of the season from Derrick Pallis. Brown scored the next goal but Lohry scored his second of the game late in the period to give Princeton a 5-2 lead. Lohry finished a nice passing play with Arhontas and Cam Ritchie also assisted on the goal.
Ammon scored his eighth of the season on a breakaway two minutes into the third period and Fedun's second goal of the night on the power play at 10:01 closed Princeton's scoring. Brodie Zuk and Ammon assisted on the goal.
Princeton goaltender Alan Reynolds stopped 30 of 33 shots for the win while Mike Clemente stopped 14 shots in the loss. Marco De Filippo had 22 saves in relief.
Princeton converted on three of seven power-play chances while the Tigers killed all five Brown power plays.
